SportsNation is the fan forum and poll section of ESPN.com. ESPN airs a sports TV show called SportsNation using 60% material generated or suggested by fans on the SportsNation website, videos from the internet, athlete Tweets, and online polling.
How do you launch a brand new interactive sports show? We did it by building a web app that let users talk sports for 30 seconds. Users were given a prompt and a phrase to work into their audition. Integrating with Youtube, users could submit their audition for others to view and a chance to be broadcast on ESPN’s SportsNation. This was the first platform hosted on ESPN’s website to unveil the Sportsnation branding.
The focus was on creating an interactive web app that accurately reflects the branding, while handling traffic coming from a nationally televised program. For this to happen flawlessly, we worked diligently to seamlessly integrate front-end web design with the backend that communicates with youtube and a proprietary platform.
We partnered with creative directors at the Martin Agency and Superfad for this project.
